Shaping Policy for Responsible AI and Technology Use in Law Enforcement

The Belgian Federal Police is committed to the responsible use of AI and other technologies in law enforcement. i4S, in partnership with Deloitte, is leading a project focused on identifying and articulating the needs of the Federal Police (FPF) while addressing key policy questions that will guide future actions.

By bringing together academic expertise and scientific research, including the contribution of Prof. Dr. Ralf De Wolf, a researcher from UGent, this initiative aims to develop a comprehensive policy framework that ensures AI is implemented ethically, effectively, and in alignment with societal expectations. Through a structured needs assessment and demand articulation, i4S supports the groundwork for informed decision-making and responsible technology deployment within the police force.

This project is a crucial step in fostering trust, transparency, and accountability in law enforcement’s use of AI and emerging technologies.

This initiative is made possible with the support of Deloitte through the UGent University Fund.
